The house of Jaeger-LeCoultre pays homage to the famous Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, and one of the most influential artists of the 19th century – Vincent van Gogh. The famous Swiss watch manufacturer has partnered with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to create the second series of the Reverso à Eclipse watch in tribute to Vincent van Gogh. The first series was presented in 2015 featuring his iconic Sunflowers. This time, the timelessly elegant Reverso features a delicate miniature of Van Gogh’s self-portrait. From the series of many self-portraits that Van Gogh produced during his lifetime, Jaeger-LeCoultre has chosen the one dating from 1887-88, before he had severed his ear, on which the head is shown from the left. The piece is one of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings, and today it rests in the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The exquisite Reverso à Eclipse watch, crafted in the workshops of Jaeger-LeCoultre, is made of platinum. A discrete pusher, located on the right side of the case, opens the shutters on the dial to reveal a miniature replica of Van Gogh’s famous work, the “Self-portrait as a painter”. As with all Reverso models, he case of the watch can be reversed to protect the dial. In addition, Reverso à Eclipse lets the wearer open and close the dial using the small wheel. The unique reversible watch is equipped with the in-house Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 849, which is merely 1.85mm thick. This hand-winding movement is made up of 123 individual components and it runs at a frequency of 21600 vibrations per hour. Mounted on 19 jewels, the mechanism provides up to 35 hours of power reserve. |
